Frequently asked questions

Clear, practical information about golf cart security, compatibility, installation, pricing, and support.

Why security matters

Why should I secure both my golf cart and golf bag?

Security should protect more than the cart itself. A parked golf cart can also expose golf clubs, personal belongings, accessories, and other valuable items that are easy to see and remove. Local reports have described carts stolen from driveways, entertainment venues, parking areas, and even a closed garage. Another report described a golf club taken from a Villager's cart while the owner was eating lunch nearby.

These examples show two different risks: someone may take the entire cart, or may quickly remove valuable property left on it. A sensible plan therefore combines cart deterrence with good habits—remove keys, secure or take your golf bag and valuables, choose visible parking when possible, and avoid treating a garage or a busy public location as a guarantee against theft.

Choosing the right protection

Why should I consider security for my golf cart?

Many golf carts use manufacturer keys that are shared across similar models. Carts, batteries, wheels, electronics, and accessories can also retain meaningful resale value. Sensible security layers can discourage unauthorized use and help protect your investment, mobility, and peace of mind.

What types of security solutions do you offer?

We evaluate practical options such as key and ignition security, unauthorized-use deterrents, and location or recovery support. Recommendations depend on your cart, how it is stored, how you use it, and the concerns that matter most to you.

Do you manufacture or represent one security product?

No. Golf Cart Security Solutions is a service company, not a product manufacturer. That allows us to focus on compatibility and customer needs instead of meeting a product quota.

Can any security system guarantee that my cart will not be stolen?

No security measure can eliminate every risk. The goal is to use reasonable layers that make unauthorized use or theft more difficult, less convenient, and less attractive.

My cart is insured—won't the insurance company pay for the loss?

If your policy includes theft coverage and the claim is covered, insurance may reimburse part of the loss. However, you will generally remain responsible for the policy deductible, and payment will be determined by the policy's valuation method, limits, exclusions, and documentation—not necessarily what you believe the cart is worth. Accessories, upgrades, or personal property may also be treated differently. Insurance can help financially, but it cannot prevent the disruption: filing reports and claims, arranging transportation, replacing the cart, and losing mobility, time, confidence, and familiar routines. Review your individual coverage with your insurance professional.

Cart compatibility

Will the same solution work on every golf cart?

Not necessarily. Compatibility can depend on the manufacturer, model, year, electrical system, power source, existing accessories, and the owner's priorities.

Which golf cart brands do you work with?

Initial consultations can cover popular brands such as Club Car, E-Z-GO, Yamaha, ICON, and Evolution. We confirm compatibility before recommending or scheduling work.

What information should I have available?

If possible, have the cart's manufacturer, model, model year, power type, and storage location available. Photos or additional details may be requested when needed to evaluate compatibility.

Can you help if I do not know my cart's exact model or year?

Yes. Share what you know, and we will help identify the additional information needed before recommending a solution.

Appointments and installation

Where can the installation be completed?

Many visits can be performed at your location in a suitable garage, driveway, or other safe work area with the cart available to the technician.

Will work begin immediately when the technician arrives?

No. We first verify the information provided, review the cart, explain the planned work, and confirm the selected solution and price with you.

How long will installation take?

Installation time varies by cart and solution. We will provide a reasonable expectation after reviewing compatibility and the planned work.

Do I need to be present?

An authorized adult should be available at the beginning of the appointment to confirm the work and at completion to receive the demonstration and support information.

What happens after installation?

We test the system, demonstrate how it operates, answer your questions, provide relevant care or support guidance, and explain what to do if you need assistance.

Pricing, service, and support

How much does golf cart security installation cost?

Pricing depends on the cart, selected equipment, installation requirements, and customer priorities. The solution and price are confirmed before authorized work begins.

Will I get a reduction on my insurance rate for having an alarm?

Possibly—but the discount is not automatic. Foremost's published off-road vehicle and golf cart materials list “Safety Equipment/Devices” among the discounts that may be available. However, Foremost does not publicly state that every alarm qualifies or publish a specific discount percentage, and it notes that discounts vary by area. General insurance-industry estimates sometimes place anti-theft or safety-device discounts around 2% to 10%, but that is an estimate—not a quoted Foremost rate—and the discount may apply only to part of the premium. Before purchasing a system for insurance savings, ask your agent whether the specific device qualifies, what proof is required, and how much the policy would actually change.
